The Gran Paradiso is located within the ononimo national park, is among a few 4000 entirely in Italian territory. The north face was first climbed in 1930 by Chabod and Amilcare Crétier. From the Chabod ruifugio you can enjoy a splendid view of the north face. A prestigious descent on uniform terrain and constant slope.
Program
- Day 1
From the Pravieux parking area 1834 m. in Valsavarenche through pastures and woods in 2.30-3.00 hours you reach the Federico Chabod refuge 2750 m. Dinner and overnight at the refuge. - Day 2
Wake up at 4.30, breakfast and departure at 4.45 in the morning. For about an hour you walk on poorly traced paths and moraines, you reach the Lavenciau glacier, which is often very crevassed. After passing the terminal in just over 1.30 you reach the top. The descent is really beautiful, the slope is very wide, after the first 150 meters the serac must be discarded on the right, which in recent years has reduced considerably in size.
